Transforming the Menopause Conversation in the Workplace

The menopause has recently gone from an infrequently talked about taboo subject with outdated connotations linked to women getting old and past it, to a current hot topic which now trends on social media platforms. It is the subject of primetime documentaries hosted by A list celebrities and is often the headline news in our daily newspapers.

We offer dedicated support for your business, providing perimenopause/menopause education and support in the workplace. Find out more about the sessions we offer and cost here.

A personal journey

Our services were born from the needs of our founder, Lyndsay Harrison. With over 18 years experience as a Nurse Practitioner in General Practice, Lyndsay created one of the first dedicated menopause clinics in General Practice in Edinburgh.

This journey began when she was embarrassed by her failure to recognise her own perimenopause symptoms. She realised that if she was unable to recognise the cause of her own symptoms she may also not recognise symptoms of perimenopause and menopause in her patients.

She enlisted on training courses with the British Menopause Society and Newson Health and has dedicated herself to raising awareness of menopause, initially amongst her peers and co-workers then decided to take her passion for menopause education into the workplace.

Testimonials from organisations we've worked with

  • Lyndsay's direct support and expertise have been invaluable to our menopause employee network, empowering individuals with her compassionate care and knowledge. As an active NHS general practice nurse, she explains how to navigate the health service, current NHS advice and shares her menopause expertise. She has engaged large audiences on online calls, answering queries and providing relevant content. We are deeply grateful for her dedication and commitment.

Anna Holmes, Head of Personal Digital, Virgin Money.

  • All our staff took part in the Menopause Education Session hosted by Lyndsay Harrison. Lyndsay was welcoming and friendly and put everyone at ease when talking about what some might think a taboo subject. Lyndsay provided an informative presentation with additional support material for staff. Our staff members were highly engaged and felt comfortable to ask questions throughout the session. We would highly recommend Lyndsay to provide this training to any workforce to help raise awareness and encourage open discussions.

Louise McLeod, Head of Operations RIAS, Edinburgh

  • The menopause awareness session that Lyndsay ran for our staff has been easily one of the most impactful and rewarding wellbeing engagement activities that we have run. The response from both male and female colleagues was universally positive. We held the initial session as part of a whole staff inset session at the start of the year and launched our menopause support group later that term. Male colleagues said that it has helped them understand and empathise with female colleagues, as well being helpful with their personal relationships outside of school. They told us that they had very little understanding of how hard it could be for some women. For some of our female colleagues, Lyndsay’s advice has been life changing. They have been able to access support from their GPs that they were previously being denied.

Laura Smith, Head of HR, The Edinburgh Academy.

  • Lyndsay recently delivered a hugely informative session on Menopause in the Workplace for all our staff; it was engaging, educational and thought-provoking. It generated numerous questions from a diverse mix of staff as all felt comfortable contributing. All questions were answered clearly and supplemented with useful, practical advice. Lyndsay’s expertise and excellent delivery mean that this talk is a great resource for all employers to use in order to educate on this important, relevant subject in their workplace.

Helen Harrison - Head, Fettes College

  • I wish something like this had been available when I went through menopause. I got no help from my GP and I would never have thought to speak to the School about what I was going through. It will mean so much to women who are on (or will be) that journey. Lyndsay spoke so well and makes you feel like it will all be OK. Thank you so much for bringing her here.

    Staff Member, The Edinburgh Academy.

  • Lyndsay took a complex and sensitive subject and translated it into an engaging and informative presentation, sharing resources which we have made available to our people on demand. Lyndsay has a natural and accessible style as a presenter whilst instilling confidence in her professional expertise. I would happily recommend Lyndsay to others.

Liz Cole – Head of HR, Artemis Investment Management LLP

  • It's the sort of workshop that would benefit all staff as it impacts a huge proportion of staff and will aid understanding of those working with menopausal women! Thanks for organising. Extremely worthwhile.

Staff member - George Heriot’s School, Edinburgh

  • We invited Lyndsay along to do a virtual session on menopause in the workplace and the feedback has been tremendous from our employees. For some this has been about raising awareness and feeling we can now talk and for others it was well received on how to support colleagues. The session was informative on a number of levels and I would highly recommend Lyndsay who ensured the session was welcoming and friendly.

Laurie-Anne Douglas - HR Manager, Space Solutions

  • Thank you so much for your wise counsel, your kindness and warmth. You gave me the courage, and knowledge, to ask for what I needed. I am hugely grateful!

    AW, Edinburgh

  • Lyndsay’s session was informative, helpful and relaxed. Her style of presentation put everyone at ease from the outset and our staff benefitted hugely from her knowledge. We look forward to welcoming her back again soon.

Susan Donnelly - Head of HR, George Heriot’s School, Edinburgh

  • Lyndsay conducted an online menopause myth-busting session available for all employees. We had a great take-up, raising awareness of the issues women face and how to support them. Lyndsay was very knowledgeable, presented well and was not thrown by any of the questions thrown out. I would be happy to recommend her to any company.

Trudy James – Member of the Diversity Committee and Gender workstream, Artemis Investment Management LLP

  • I can’t tell you what it means to me and other women that the School are investing in something like this. I feel seen and heard for the first time in many years. It is a relief to know that I can ask for help.

    Staff Member, The Edinburgh Academy.

  • Thank you for being so patient and listening. I went to my GP and I am now fully HRT’d up!

    CC, Edinburgh

  • Thank you for arranging this very informative and well-pitched session (and to Lyndsay for her great delivery), I came away from it feeling "normal" and armed with useful information.

Staff Member - George Heriot’s School, Edinburgh

  • The support sessions have been incredibly successful, with women being given a space to talk, listen and get advice either from Lyndsay or from one and another. Listening to some of the difficulties that colleagues have been experiencing and suffering in silence with was harrowing and infuriating. I am delighted they feel able to speak up and ask for support. Watching these women share their stories, offering support to one and another and generally giving themselves some credit for carrying on has been really humbling.

Laura Smith, Head of HR, Edinburgh Academy.

  • We were delighted to welcome Lyndsay Harrison of Workplace Menopause Support to our office earlier this week. Lyndsay gave us an enlightening and invaluable lunchtime talk on the impact of menopause within the workplace, and how best to support those experiencing perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms. We would strongly encourage everyone to get in touch with Lyndsay to help break the taboo of discussing the menopause, and to educate all in the workplace, and we look forward to continuing our conversations within HLA.

    Helen Lucas Architects, Edinburgh

  • A very clear and valuable insight into the stages and symptoms of the menopause and the treatment options available to help menopausal women.  I wished I’d had the benefit of that advice 20 years ago when I was perimenopausal.  Encouraging to see male colleagues not only taking an interest but showing empathy.

Veronica Low - Partnership & Business Development Manager, RIAS, Edinburgh

  • I’ve been lucky enough to attend Menopause in the workplace with Lyndsay and I would highly recommend any business to reach out to her. Lyndsay has a wealth of knowledge and experience, and her presentation was fantastic and very well received from our staff. We will be arranging annual sessions going forward”

    Louise Townsley, Executive Assistant, ParsleyBox

  • We wanted to start building awareness and openness around the topic of menopause in our workplace and Lyndsay's introduction session started the conversation. Initiating support channels for those experiencing menopause, preparing to approach it in the future or looking to support colleagues, family and friends. The follow up sessions we ran to explore more depth on focused related topics as well as building knowledge and understanding across our managers have been informative, practical and created an openness of curiosity and support. Thoroughly recommend investing in bringing Lyndsay into your workplace to build awareness and support.

Emma Louden, Chief People Officer, CT.

  • Thank you for organising the menopause session. It helps me understand more about what might be happening to my colleagues and how I might help. Lyndsay explained everything really well.

Male staff member, The Edinburgh Academy.
