Impact of Menopause in workplace
How Does Perimenopause and Menopause impact the workforce
A recent survey carried out by Newson Health looking at the impact of menopausal and perimenopausal symptoms upon women in the workplace showed that-
99% of participants felt that menopause symptoms had a negative impact on their work
59% had taken time of work due to symptoms with 18% being absent for over 8 weeks
21% did not go for promotion they would have otherwise considered
19% had reduced their working hours
12% resigned
Frequently women who attend my menopause clinic in General Practice tell me that they are struggling with work and are considering either reducing their hours or leaving. Many of them have been struggling with symptoms for several years prior to booking an appointment to see me. With the right support, good lifestyle choices and treatment where appropriate, women should be able to continue to work to the best of their ability throughout their perimenopause and menopause.
By providing menopause education and support women are more likely to regcongnise their symptoms early and seek medical advice before their symptoms impact them at work
